Exploring the Philippines and Asia - Fresh Jumping Shrimps

 Las Pinas City, Philippines

At 630am this morning, while I was still asleep, my husband went to a market 4 kms away to buy me my 'craved for food' - shrimps.  One hour later he was back home with a lot of our favorite goodies as follows:
1 kg. alive and kicking shrimps
2 kgs. camote (either it is yam or sweet potato)
1 bunch of saba, a local variety of banana
1 bunch of lacatan/bananas
10 pcs. of suman - a native delicacy using sticky rice, coconut milk and sugar

I washed the shrimps, dumped it in a pan, removed accumulated water, seasoned with salt and cooked it covered just for a few minutes, only until it changed color to a bright orange.

We ate the al dente shrimps for breakfast (dipped in a Korean sweetish soy sauce) together with boiled camote, suman, coffee and tea.

Total cost: Pesos 750 or Cad $17

C'est la vie.
