RVing For the Very First Time... In Europe... First Stop - Verona, Italy

May 31, 2007

This was the day Mar, Cha and I began our RV adventure in Europe, started in the town of Gazoldo Ippolitti in the Italian province of Mantova.

Cha and I were screaming with delight, the reality of what was happening was too unbelievable but we were actually living the dream. WE WERE RVING FOR REAL, for the first time, not in Canada, not in USA... in Europe.  We did some more screaming while Mar was smiling and continued with his driving.

We left Gazoldo sometime after lunch and was driving along the deserted roads of Gazoldo, not too far yet from Regie's house when there was a noise that caught our attention which in turn quieted us down from our shrieks.  Mar stopped on the side of the road and realized it was the small plastic window of the RV washroom.  We went back a little, found it in one piece, retrieved it, installed it back with lots of tape to help secure it in place, then we went on our happy journey.

In the past week, we went to the famous open-air market along the lake in Desenzano, Italy, famous for Lake Garda and did some shopping.  I bought for Cha a pair of shoes (10 euros), a mini skirt (10) and some more items I can't remember while I bought a pot (5 euros) and a pan (5) for the RV, 3 summer shirts (10) for Mar,  a pair of sandals and a pair of slippers (13) for me.  Afterwards, we went to Il Leone Mall, a new lovely mall and did some more shopping.  Cha bought some nice fashion accessories.  I bought a brand new pair of Nike shoes (32) for Kevin as a gift and decided to give Alfredo a cash gift of Euros 50 so he can buy what he wants. What we really wanted to shop for though was a Global Positioning System or GPS.  We got it for Euros 300 with the map of Europe included.  Worth mentioning was the snack we had in the open market which was fried fresh fish and squid (17 euros), still hot and crispy, so delicious.

This was also the first time we have ever owned and used a GPS, we naturally were amused everytime Georgia (name we gave GPS, gender: female) would speak and when she announced "arriving at destination on left" or something like that, we were thrilled.

Georgia brought us to the center of Verona where there were lots of coffee shops and restaurants and people sitting alfresco, enjoying the wonderful day.

We found a parking spot for the RV (no name was given to it), walked the streets of Verona, found Juliet, window shopped, ate pizza alfresco to experience it in Verona, Cha and I had 2 flavors each of gelato, took lots of pictures and found our way back to the RV.
