RVing in Europe - Florence, Italy, Region of Tuscany

June 2, 2007

We got back to Mantova for Cha to say goodbye and to have dinner and go disco dancing with cousins Regie and Carla and their friends.  Cha's itinerary being rving with us in Italy, Monaco, Spain and France with her flight back to Vancouver, BC from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France, would not bring her back to Mantova, Italy.

June 3-4, 2007

This is the day we are going away for several months to tour Europe on an RV. The part when we went to Verona and Venice served as practice.  Actually, we wanted to do those places first because Verona  is only 45kms. away from Mantova while Venice is an additional 125kms. northbound.

Today we go south.

We left Mantova early afternoon, went shopping at the supermarket of IL Gigante for food, water, juices, pillows, bath soap, dish soap, laundry soap, etc. Total shopping Euros 85.00.

Before sunset we arrived at Camping Michaelangelo in Florence.  We were directed where to park.  RV fee with 3 people was Euros 43.  Mar and Cha went to the nearby park where there was a "fake" David .  Original as far as I know is in a Museum.  This park sat on a hill, overlooking the city of Florence. There were plenty of people in the park, sitting on steps, to witness the sunset.  Mar and Cha sat with them and they were happy to report that sunset was great and they conclude that the park is popular due to "the sunset".  It all happened while dinner was being cooked.

The following day, we took a bus to go to the city center where the cathedral called IL DUOMO is located.  We walked the streets, went inside the church, took pictures, ate gelato, had a disappointing lunch, crossed the Ponte Vecchio and decided we want to go to Sienna, Italy.

Mar went back to the camp to get the RV and picked-us-up.

We drove to Sienna, only 75 kms from Florence.  We drove the streets of Sienna, circling the city center twice but we were not able to find anywhere to park.  We even had a slightly traumatic experience going uphill a very narrow street and getting nowhere so we had to go back but getting back was extremely difficult on a very narrow street on a hill.

We left Sienna disapointed.
